Particle Physics Approach to Dark Matter
نویسنده
چکیده
We review the main proposals of particle physics for the composition of the cold dark matter in the universe. Strong axion contribution to cold dark matter is not favored if the Peccei-Quinn field emerges with non-zero value at the end of inflation and the inflationary scale is superheavy since, under these circumstances, it leads to unacceptably large isocurvature perturbations. The lightest neutralino is the most popular candidate constituent of cold dark matter. Its relic abundance in the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model can be reduced to acceptable values by pole annihilation of neutralinos or neutralino-stau coannihilation. Axinos can also contribute to cold dark matter provided that the reheat temperature is adequately low. Gravitinos can constitute the cold dark matter only in limited regions of the parameter space. We present a supersymmetric grand unified model leading to violation of Yukawa unification and, thus, allowing an acceptable b-quark mass within the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with μ > 0. The model possesses a wide range of parameters consistent with the data on the cold dark matter abundance as well as other phenomenological constraints. Also, it leads to a new version of shifted hybrid inflation.

Singlet scalar dark matter in noncommutative space
In this paper, we examine the singlet scalar dark matter annihilation to becoming the Standard Model particles in the non-commutative space. In the recent decades, many candidates of dark matter have been offered, but our information about the nature of dark matter is still limited. There are such particle candidates as scalar matetr, fermion, boson, gauge boson, etc.; however, they have nei...
متن کاملGetting the astrophysics and particle physics of dark matter out of next-generation direct detection experiments
The next decade will bring massive new data sets from experiments of the direct detection of weakly interacting massive particle dark matter. Mapping the data sets to the particle-physics properties of dark matter is complicated not only by the considerable uncertainties in the dark-matter model, but by its poorly constrained local distribution function (the ‘‘astrophysics’’ of dark matter). I ...
متن کاملDark Matter and Particle Physics
Astrophysicists now know that 80% of the matter in the universe is ‘dark matter’, composed of neutral and weakly interacting elementary particles that are not part of the Standard Model of particle physics. I will summarize the evidence for dark matter. I will explain why I expect dark matter particles to be produced at the CERN LHC. We will then need to characterize the new weakly interacting ...
متن کاملDark matter: theoretical perspectives.
I both review and make the case for the current theoretical prejudice: a flat Universe whose dominant constituent is nonbaryonic dark matter, emphasizing that this is still a prejudice and not yet fact. The theoretical motivation for nonbaryonic dark matter is discussed in the context of current elementary-particle theory, stressing that (i) there are no dark-matter candidates within the "stand...
متن کاملParticle Dark Matter from Physics Beyond the Standard Model
So far the existence of the dark matter (DM) is our best experimental evidence for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The most recent WMAP data [1] confirm the standard cosmological model and precisely pin down the amount of cold dark matter as 0.094 < ΩCDMh 2 < 0.129, in accord with earlier indications. Nevertheless, the exact nature of the dark matter still remains a mystery, as all known...
متن کاملValencia 93: the Summary of Particle Theory
The International School on Cosmological Dark Matter held in Valencia in the fall of 1993 was devoted to the interplay of cosmology and particle physics, with the obvious emphasis on the Dark Matter issue. Here I present the expanded version of my summary talk regarding the particle physics theory part of the School.
